SIGA Polytechnic College celebrated its annual sports meet on 12.01.2024. The event brought together the management, faculty, and students for a day filled with spirited competition, camaraderie, and sportsmanship.
The day commenced with an impressive opening ceremony, where the national flag, college flagand Olympic flag were hoisted, and the national anthem echoed across the sports ground. Rev. Fr. Dominic Matthews SDB, the Rector and Secretary of the college addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of sports in the overall development of students and encouraging active participation in the day’s events. Mr. Ravi Sankar, Sub- Inspector of Police Broadway Chennai accepted the honour given management and watched the colourful majestic march past by various houses like Red, Green, Yellow, Blue, RGB and CMYK. He addressed the students the importance of leading disciplined life and their contribution to develop our nation.
The sports events were categorized into various disciplines, catering to a wide range of interests and talents.
Athletics: The track and field events showcased the athleticism of the students. Participants competed in 100 meters and 400 x 100 meters, thrilling the audience with their speed and agility.
Team Sports: the College’s sports ground buzzed with excitement as various houses battled it out in sports like football, volleyball, cricket, badmitton, Kabaadi and basketball. The matches were fiercely contested, and the crowd cheered enthusiastically for their favourite teams.
Indoor Games: For those inclined towards indoor activities, the college organized competitions in chess and carom. These events witnessed intense matches and strategic gameplay.
Prize Distribution: The day culminated with a grand prize distribution ceremony, where winners and participants were felicitated for their outstanding performances. The chief guest, a notable sports personality or dignitary, presented trophies and medals to the deserving individuals and teams. Red House seized the Overall Championship in SIGA Polytechnic College. RGB took the Overall Champion ship in Salesian Institute of Graphic Arts and Science.
The closing ceremony featured an expressing gratitude by Mr. Meril Anand Head of SDC to everyone who contributed to the success of the event. The college flag was lowered, marking the end of a day filled with sportsmanship, teamwork, and healthy competition.
